Making a self introduction video for your ESL Teacher recruitment

So you want to work as an esl teacher in China. Let’s get you prepped. One of the very important things you need to make for your recruitment is a self introduction video. Alongside your resume and other information, recruiters always ask for a self introduction video.
There a youtube video here
There are a couple of reasons for this.
- They need to see the legitimacy of your application. Doing this. Takes your application a step further
- They want to evaluate your accent. As to whether you’re a native speaker or not. This has a significant impact on your application in general.
- The other reason is, they send this video alongside your information to the school seeking an esl teacher so that they can personally evaluate you and make a decision for themselves. They always want to put a face and a voice to the information they receive.
Now let’s get to making that video.
There are important things you need to highlight.
- Your name and your age
- Your country of origin and your current location or where you live
- If you have any experience teaching esl, you can state it
- Any special certification you hold that might help your case, such as TEFL, TESOL, Degree, Teacher certification
- This may be optional, but your special teaching techniques such as VARK, montesorri style or whatever you're really effective at
Some other things to consider
- In making your video, you need to be as natural sounding as possible and not robotic.
- You also need to show enthusiasm but also not over do it.
- You need to be professional looking but then again don’t overdo it with a suit and tie or something like that
- Your video needs to be clean, good looking and with a good background
- You can stand or sit but you must have a straight posture
- It is good to keep your video within a minute or two, at most three. And you have to avoid useless chatter no matter what.
Below is an example statement you can use:
Hello my name is William, I was born and raised in Ghana where English is an official language. Since I was little English has been the main language of instruction in all the schools that I have attended. I have a computer science degree and also I have a Tesol certificate. I have been working as an ESL teacher in the north of China for the past three years. I teach in a bilingual kindergarten and I’m also the head of the English department. I am very passionate about teaching and I’m able to relate English to the personal lives of my students. My teaching style is very simple and practical. I’m hoping I can work at your school to improve the English proficiency and also the cultural experience of your students. Thank you
So there you go, I wish you the best in your application.
